it's baby time

so i just got a note from an old friend who noticed that i had barely mentioned the fact that we're expecting our first child on june 16. i usually leave the details of my personal life off of the web but this certainly is the focus of my life right now. we're both very excited that we're having a little girl and it's hard to believe that in less than a month, i'll be a dad. wow, i guess i really am a grown up now.

chas ford garden party

went down to the thriving metropolis that is columbus tx to play charles ford's bi-annual garden jazz party last night. also in the band were andy langham, pete rodriguez, david caceras, david craig and clyde adams. caceras, craig and adams all from houston, pete & i from austin and andy from san antonio - a real central tx gumbo. dave caceras is a great alto player who i last played with almost 10 years ago and it was great to see/hear him again.

chas ford is an artist who chooses to live in columbus out in the sticks (very peaceful) and makes treks to houston, austin and san antonio to check out the entire central tx jazz scene. he puts on a big party twice a year and invites people to eat, drink and be merry - whilst listening to jazz in his backyard. very hip hang. i've played it a few times before but this time my pay was an original piece of art from chas himself. i sent a picture i took in nyc which he realistically recreated on canvas. as i told one jazz gardener - "$100 pays for my electric bill, this will hang on my wall forever."

thank you

for a wonderful evening. i really appreciate all of you who made the show and participated in the music with us. the band sounded great, the audience was into it and we sold a lot of cd's. a perfect evening in my book. i hope you enjoy the new recording - it took 8 years to make!

last stand

well tonight is our last night at cedar street given that it doesn't get rained out. we were there for 8 weeks which was a nice run but they want to go back to cover bands on monday night. my guess is there weren't enough drinks sold when we played as that's often the reason given. if you were waiting to come hear us i'm afraid you've run out of time. if we don't get rained on, we'll be down there one last time tonight. we start at 9pm.

i won't let the bad news ruin my week 'cuz i'm still very excited about the thursday show on the radio and then friday at the elephant. hope you can join.

big week

so i picked up the cd's from sound recorders yesterday and they look and sound great. i'm very pleased and happy this project is nearing a conclusion. i'm extremely proud of the work i've done and now i'm ready to share it with others and move on to the next thing. i hope that you can make it to the cd release this friday, may 12 and celebrate this recording with me.

i'll be playing on monday at cedar street and then on thursday, i'll be performing on kut (90.5 fm) on jay trachtenberg's show. we go on around 2pm and we'll have hamilton price in from l.a. for the radio show and the cd release on friday.
